(Sukuk.net - Khaleej Times) The Emirates Islamic Bank (EIB) on Thursday clarified that the blockage of its credit cards in Russia and Italy is not a new development and the measure was taken a few months ago.

The Emirates Islamic Bank in a statement said, "Following the precautionary reminder SMS circulated by Emirates Islamic Bank to its credit card customers on January 8, 2009 informing them that the bank has blocked card usage in Russia and Italy for transaction security, and following the numerous telephone calls received inquiring about its content, Emirates Islamic Bank management wishes to clarify this SMS is only a reminder as transactions in the said countries (Russia and Italy) have been already blocked a few months ago i.e. it is not a new development but business as usual."

The Emirates Islamic Bank did not provide further details and exact date of blockage when this scribe contacted the Emirates Islamic Bank on the issue.
