Damascus -- The 5th Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions Conference kicked off here on Monday to discuss risk management and liquidity at Islamic banks.
The conference, in which Jordan is taking part, will also discuss the role of monitory bodies as well as paving the way for Islamic banks' expansion.
Assistant Director General of the Central Bank of Jordan Hussein Saeed talked to petra about his working paper at the conference, which was titled "Liquidity Risks in Islamic Banks".
The paper, he said, highlights the liquidity risks instruments and procedures Jordan is carrying out in dealing with Jordan Islamic Bank.
Saeed said Islamic banks were not directly affected by the global financial downturn, but was hit by its repercussions, which resulted in lack of liquidity and weak demand on goods and services.
